Mobile Loaves & Fishes was a proud participant of Blog Action Day '08--it was an amazing experienc to combat poverty with people worldwide.  Just because Blog Action Day '08 is over, though, it doesn't mean we have stopped thinking
about poverty, though.

We are an organization dedicated to putting a face on poverty so please, read up on Blog Action Day for next year,
and read our blog.  Look at the face of poverty.

As part of Blog Action day, MLF will blog, photograph, podcast, and videocast a 24 hour immersion on the streets.  Some of us will have dogs, some of us will have phones, but all of us come with the desire to put a face on poverty here in Austin.

We need your help!

  • For more information about joining us for some or all of the 24 hour immersion, you can email Alan Graham, MLF's President and Co-Founder at alan@mlfnow.org.

Today,  20% of the folks in our wonderful hometown live in what is considered poverty conditions - approximately 200,000 of Travis County residents are classified as "working poor" by the Texas Department of Human Services.  The estimates  are that 41,000 children under the age of 18 in Travis County are confronted with food insecurity every day.

To often these statistics are swept under the rug.

Blog Action Day is "an event that aims to unite the world’s bloggers, podcasters and videocasters, to ... raise awareness and trigger a global discussion.

One Issue, Thousands of Voices

Global issues like poverty are extremely complex. There is no simple, clear answer. By asking thousands of different people to give their viewpoints and opinions, Blog Action Day creates an extraordinary lens through which to view these issues. Each blogger brings their own perspective and ideas. Each blogger posts relating to their own blog topic. And each blogger engages their audience differently." (from http://www.blogactionday.org/)
