"Front Steps, managers of the Austin Resource Center for the Homeless, fully supports the Mobile Loaves & Fishes Habitat on Wheels Park Place Village Development.
Front Steps recognizes this project as an important component of the housing options for homeless people. Several former clients from ARCH have already found homes in one of this organization's RVs and they are doing very well.
Single Room Occupancies (SROs) are very good for many--but not all--homeless people. Some clients of ARCH cannot manage living in a densely populated apartment complex. The RV park offers a little more privacy and a better access to an outdoor environment. Mobile Loaves and Fishes is rich in volunteer resources.
Front Steps will work collaboratively with Mobile Loaves and Fishes to help ARCH clients transition into housing. Please support this creative solution to homelessness."

Habitat On Wheels (HOW) is an ongoing effort by Mobile Loaves & Fishes to effectively confront homelessness in Austin. HOW gets people off the street by providing them with recreational vehicle housing and the support they need to improve their circumstance. This solution not only provides participants with housing, but also with a supportive community that is dedicated to helping them effect positive change in their lives.

Jennifer Gale Village is our vision for the future of HOW. It is our planned community for the homeless of Austin, Texas. Far from just benefiting those who will live in it, Jennifer Gale Village will create a more pleasant atmosphere in Austin by bringing dignity and respect to some of its most underappreciated and amazing citizens. Let’s take a journey through the vision of the soul of Jennifer Gale Village. There are three legs to this journey. The first leg is to understand what human beings need, the second is what is a home and why is it so important to us; and finally, why do we need “community” to address our needs from bottom to top and why “Community First”. |

We have to ask the question: Why would anybody panhandle? Is it really so profitable that people have been flocking to the trade over the past several years? Is it a sign of the degredation that a person would subject themselves to panhandling? Or os there someting going on in our society that now compels so many people to humiliate themselves for spare change? Read up on the studies we have gathered to answer some of these questions. |
